Yafo by Sasha Ivanir
This piece depicts a home of the artist’s grandparents in Jaffa, Israel. Sasha Ivanir chose to paint this particular scene as a way to feel closer to this “home away from home” during the pandemic.
“...This house is a reoccurring setting in my dreams, a home that I have visited every year since I was born, except for this year… This home away from home, one filled with memories of being a child, felt so close for a second as I motioned my hands to where the couch and the table resided, suddenly feeling my small bare feet against the cold black and white tiled floor in the kitchen, my nose began to smell the lemongrass and patchouli and my ears heard the ringing of my grandparents voices, loud and intense but all the while warm and caring. For a split second I was taken back to the place that I looked forward to enduring a 15 hour flight for. For a split second, I was a child again, back at home.” - Sasha Ivanir
